About Geert


Geert Heetebrij wrote and co-created web series The Interior, which was also cast on the web, a first for a drama series. It was shot in the rainforests in Panama, and premiered in 2007.

He is the writer-producer of romantic comedy A Foreign Affair (aka DVD title ‘2 Brothers & a Bride’) starring David Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, and Emily Mortimer. That film was shot during a real Russian romance tour with actual American tour clients and Russian would-be brides functioning as extras. The film premiered at Sundance, opened in select US theaters in 2004, and has been distributed worldwide. Ebert and Roeper gave it Two Thumbs Up!

Prior to writing and producing his first feature film, Geert made internationally broadcast documentaries such as ‘Black Slaves for Sale’, about 21st century slavery in Sudan (Geert received writer-director credit on the Dutch version/writer credit on the international version). The documentary premiered stateside at the Amnesty International Film Festival in 2002.

Geert has a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and in Art from Calvin College, and a Master of Fine Arts in Film, Television and Digital Media from UCLA.
